Club Handover Night
The meeting was opened by Peter in the normal manner. He thanked members and office bearers alike for the support given in the past year.
Peter then awarded the Presidents Quaich to Joyce Wilson for her outstanding service to the club in his term of office.
A virtual handover took place and Angela was installed as President for the Rotary year.
Angela then outlined her plans for her year with the focus being on Community.
A good meeting with Malcolm giving the closing toast.

Members of the Melrose Rotary Club attended the Scott Rail adopt a Station annual meeting held in Glasgow. Groups from all over Scotland came together to share their experiences over the last 12 months and their plans for the future. We were addressed by the new Head of Scott Rail who thanked all the volunteers for their efforts and what had been achieved so far. He than introduced us to speakers who had transformed derelict land around station platforms with flowers shrubs and sculptures
We were also advised of a Scott Rail project to support Motor Neurone Disease through their blue cornflower innovative to promote this flower of hope. We came away with packets of seeds which we hope to plant at the Station once the current earth works are completed.

We held a special event, Malcolm was the victim of a sponsored shave !
From having attempted the skaters waltz at Melrose Sevens,
Malcolm needed to wear a disguise to cover the unfortunate result.
Now all healed, pressure has resulted in the beard being removed.
Proceeds going to Water Aid.
So now we have a before and after.

Our Club organised with the Co-op Transport Department at Newhouse C D C
to present their Safety Awareness Campaign to Melrose Primary School.
With Driving Assessors and the latest equipped vehicle on hand, children were
given a practical insight into road safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
A most enjoyable day for all concerned.

On Thursday 21st we held a most enjoyable social night with our Friend's of Rotary
We also had two visiting Rotarian's from Pitlochry.

The Men's Shed have made and presented a flower planter to the club in the form of a steam locomotive.

Isabel spoke about the life and work of Mary Somerville, Jedburgh's Scientist Extraordinaire.
Mary Fairfax Somerville was born in the Manse at Jedburgh, the home of her uncle, Dr Thomas Somerville.
She studied Mathematics and Astronomy and was jointly nominated to be
the first female member of the Royal Astronomical Society.

This week we have sent a Shelter Box to Sri Lanka.
Widespread monsoon flooding caused by Cyclone Mora, resulting in 80,000 people being made homeless.

Help for Heroes.
A street collection was held on Saturday 27th May in aid of the charity
£192.91 was raised on the day, and Melrose Rotary donated to make a total of £500.00
We appreciate the generosity of the Melrose community, and the Co-op for the use of facilities.

A very successful day for the school's and children involved,
it also raised the profile of Rotary in the community.

Scotrail Presentation.
On the 11th of May we had a very informative presentation by John Yellowlees from Scotrail.
John spoke about the history and demise of the Waverly line, to the first hopes for it's reinstatement and where we are today.
He described how the rail system works, the daily challenges and the future plans for new rolling stock and how this will benifit the Borders Railway.
Each Sunday this August will see the return of steam excursions to Tweedbank arriving at 12.15 PM
A Stanier 4-6-0 "Black five" will be the locomotive used for these events.

Within the last few months we have invested nearly £700.00 with "Lend With Care".
These loans enable people from Zambia to Vietnam to invest in small sustainable Farms and Businesses,
to feed and support their families, and overcome poverty in the developing world.

On Thursday March the 23rd.
The Club members, along with friends and family travelled to Pitlochry on an "away day special".
Highlights included crossing the Forth Rail Bridge, the walk over the Pitlochry Dam, the Salmon Ladder, and lunch at the Festival Theatre by the River Tummel, a good day was had by all, returning home by 8.00 PM.
